Here's a rock riff in the style of Keith Richards using typical major & suspended chords.

Sound

You could use the bridge or middle pickup with a smooth overdriven sound. I use a Fulltone OCD and the clean channel of the Mesa Boogie V-Twin preamp with some reverb added in pro tools.

Theory

In this riff we use sus4 and sus2 chords : we simply replace the third of the chord with the second or the fourth.
